Scents for the Holiday Season

Wreaths that welcome your guests with the wonderful scents of the season - a hint of the wonders inside as they step through your doorway -
a bit of spice, a touch of pine, and the gentle chime of tiny bells.
Naturally Christmas -
Using a grapevine wreath, a branch of pine with small pinecones, floral wire, a moss-covered branch, snow birds, tiny clay pot, dried berries, or artificial raspberries, cranberries, silk holly, a red bandana, tiny jingle bells, additional pinecones, dried bay leaves, spanish moss, miniature poinsettias, chenille wire, a bit of “snow” textured paint -
Decorate and add as much or as little as you like - give your entranceway a touch of the Season.
If you live in warmer climates, change the decor to suit the area you live in, or use the winter touches to add nostalgia and storybook touches to your door.
There is a White Christmas in the hearts of everyone!
*****************************
Goose Wreath:
grapevine wreath, sphagnum moss, a burgundy ribbed velvet ribbon, a tiny bird next and goose figurine, bracken ferns, white German statice, red berries, dried apple, orange, and lemon slices, cut in half.
This “nature” wreath emits a fragrance of fruit and spice - a wonderful combination for this time of year.
*****************************
Pumpkins still can highlight some of your Holiday decor -
Try a truly rustic pumpkin basket trio: Three pumpkins of varying size, hollowed out and cleaned of seeds and pulp.
Colros: bittersweet orange, black and trail tan and antiquing paint, an old toothbrush, grapevine, 2-guage wire.
Poke two small holes with a pick opposite each other near the top of the pumpkin, about 1 inch below the rim.
Cut three or four grapevine lengths, depending on the thickness of the vine for each pumpkin as a handle. Cut the grapevines 28″ for the large pumpkin, 20″ for the medium, and 16″ for the small. Cut two 12″ lengths of wire to attach to the handle. Run the end of one wire through a hole and center the wire in the hole. Gather the grapevine and place one side next to the outside of the basket with the ends hanging about 2″ below the hole. Tightly wrap the wire tails around the vine. Attach the other end of the handle in the same manner. Repeat for all your pumpkins.
Using the toothbrush, paint and decorate your pumpkins.
Fill with dips, salsas, and sour cream, etc. and surround the entire top with fresh parsley held in place with toothpicks. Use the largest for your chips.
Colorful, useful, and a “different” touch to your buffet table.
********************************
Recall the scent of gingerbread and you have all kind of memories spilling over.
To make fragrant gingerboys that you can string on your tree, use in a wreath, or place in bowls of potpourris -
3-1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp. ginger, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. ground cloves, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cut butter, softened, 1/2 cup molasses, 3/4 cup water
Combine dry ingredients. Cream in the butter and molasses, alternating with water. The dough will be very stiff. Roll out the dough to 1/4″ thickness or thinner. Cut out the cookies with a 2-1/4″ gingerbread cookie cutter. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet at 350 for 15-20 mins. This will overbake and dry the cookies. Paint with acrylic paint to decorate. Fragrant, very nostalgic, and perfect for your Holiday home decor.
********************************
Just a few touches to add to your home to bring the very essence of the Season to those you love and care about.
ENJOY!

30th Birthday Gift Ideas

Choosing a birthday gift for a friend about to turn thirty years old can be a challenging task. You want to honor the special day with a unique gift, but not necessarily draw attention to their age. After all, thirty is the pivotal year of life when we transition from young adults to full-fledged grownups. Make your loved one feel their best on their big day by choosing a gift that focuses on the beginning of his or her life, not the number of years that have passed.

If you want to give a truly personal gift, you cannot go wrong with a birthstone– a gift idea that dates back to Biblical times. Birthstones and zodiac stones are great gifts that hold deep significance and will be treasured for years. When making your purchase, be sure to keep in mind the type and size of jewelry the person wears most often, as well as whether she prefers gold or silver. This way, you can embed her birthstone, for instance a pearl for a June birthday, in a setting that will be adored. Birthstones are also stunning when mounted in watches, brooches, and hairpins for those who rarely wear rings or necklaces. If you are shopping for a man, he may prefer a pocket watch or specialty ink pen imbedded with his birthstone to jewelry. Following, is a list of birthstones:

  • January — Garnet
  • February — Light Purple Amethyst
  • March — Blue/Green Aquamarine
  • April — Diamond
  • May — Emerald
  • June — Pearl
  • July — Ruby
  • August — Light Green Peridot
  • September — Blue Sapphire
  • October — Multi-Color Opal
  • November — Golden Topaz
  • December — Turquoise or Blue Zircon

Some people have a special interest or belief in their astrological information. If this is the case with your friend, consider giving him or her a physical symbol of the zodiac and of your love with a zodiac stone gift, sometimes called Astral Stones. As with the birthstone tradition, a gemstone is assigned to each of the twelve zodiac signs. If your friend is a Cancer, for instance, he or she will cherish an emerald and its professed abilities to increase courage and health. When presenting a zodiac stone gift, include a description of the gem’s astrological significance and origins. Following is a list of zodiac stones:

  • Aquarius — Garnet
  • Pisces — Amethyst, Aquamarine
  • Aries — Bloodstone
  • Taurus — Sapphire
  • Gemini — Agate, Alexandrite
  • Cancer — Emerald
  • Leo — Onyx, Peridot
  • Virgo — Carnelian
  • Libra — Opal
  • Scorpio — Beryl
  • Sagittarius — Topaz
  • Capricorn — Ruby

Whether you purchase a birthstone or a zodiac gemstone, you’ll honor your friend’s thirtieth birthday in a distinctive, personal, and memorable way.

Do You Love A Man?

Do you love a man over the age of 40? Dad, brother, friend, spouse, lover, etc? Do you love a man whose family members have had cancer?

Then go get your phone - yes, right now and call them. Or send them an email. Ask them to speak to their doctor about
taking a PSA test. This is a simple blood test that measures the Prostate-specific antigen. It helps men catch prostrate inflammation and/or cancer. The test is not perfect, however,
in many cases it gets a man to a place they haven’t been to in a while - the doctors office. Personally this test caught a case of cancer - the worst type - in my family 10 years ago.
And the person is still with us now.

If you have a client form and ask some health related questions add ” date of PSA test” to your form for men. You never know whose life you may help, whose family you many help, just by asking and answering this question.

Want more information on PSA? Visit your doctor.

Demand the Why, Don’t Settle for Just the How-To

Don’t settle for a laundry list, find out why you’re supposed to do something and you’ll remember it longer and use it better!
I’m with the childhood development scientists who recently authored “The Scientist in the Crib.” Their rationale? “While popular books about science speak to intelligent, perceptive adults who simply want to learn, books about babies typically just give advice, heavy on the how-to and light on the why.”

I find this true of education about emotional intelligence, as well. We get instruction in how-to manage our emotions and those of others, which is lowest level of learning, and not how the emotions work, in other words the why.

Clients tell me they’ve learned “when you’re angry, take a deep breath and count to 10.”

Well, that’s fine, and, yes, it may work, if you can remember it when you need it. But I’ve found that when you rote-memorize something, and then are under pressure, it isn’t there when you need it, nor is it accessible in novel situations.

In this case, if you understand where anger comes from, and why breathing and counting to 10 make a difference, you will be able to apply this knowledge to new situations, and new emotions.

When we become angry - which is an automatic knee-jerk reaction coming from the brainstem - our body goes on full-alert for fight-or-flight, which takes our breath away.

Attractive members of the opposite sex can do this to us, too, as that’s a brainstem reaction –sexual attraction. This “fight-or-flight” reaction is also affectionately called “The 3 Fs” and I’ll let you connect the dots on that one.

When “fight-or-flight” takes over, our cardiovascular system gets ready to hit, run, conserve blood in case of an injury, and shut down systems to conserve energy, including thinking, because thinking would slow us down.

Our self-preservation instincts will always take precedence, because if a bull is charging toward you and you stop to ponder, “Is that bull a bos Iberius or a …” you will be impaled on the horns of more than an intellectual dilemma.

When you force yourself to breathe deeply, you’re sending oxygen back to your brain, and allowing yourself time to move from the brainstem to the neocortex, so you can think before you act - words being “actions”, as well as hitting people or throwing things.

The more you can respond instead of react, the more likely the outcome will be beneficial to all concerned.

Now you know why you count to ten, and can apply this to other circumstances requiring thoughtful responses.

For optimal personal and professional development, ask WHY. Don’t accept a simple HOW-TO list.

Congratulations On Your 6Th Month Of Pregnancy!

You are now entering the second trimester, some mothers find this the most comfortable stage of pregnancy. It’s a very exciting time, you’ve got a lot to look forward to in the coming months so it’s important that you keep yourself fit and well by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.

Your baby is now approximately 31 centimeters in length and weighs about 800 grams. Eyebrows and eyelids are now developed and your baby can open and close its eyes. The lungs have filled with amniotic fluid and breathing motions have begun.

Your baby begins to develop hearing and taste senses

Your baby will gain weight due to muscle, organ and bone development

Your baby may start to respond to noise outside the womb

You may be able to hear foetal heartbeat through stethoscope

Your baby’s veins will become visible through the skin

Your baby’s brain will grow rapidly.

Your morning sickness should have eased and many women feel more energised and experience a general feeling of well-being and contentment. You don’t yet have the full weight of a maturing baby placing stress on your body so it’s the perfect time for some gentle exercise. Try to get as much rest as you can because you’ll find it easier to sleep now than in the later stages of your pregnancy.

It’s often thought that pregnant women are supposed to be radiant and glowing but that’s not always the case. All women are different and experience various physical changes that are perfectly normal during pregnancy. You might find that certain areas of the skin begin to darken, stretchmarks may develop and heartburn is quite common at the six-month mark.

You can expect to gain approximately 6 kilograms (13 lb) in the next three months so if you haven’t already made the transition to maternity wear, it’s a good idea to start thinking about buying a few comfortable pieces.

Pregnancy can be an exciting and sometimes overwhelming time. Everybody seems to have an opinion or suggestion on what to do and how to stay healthy. To help ease any concerns you might have, we’ve put together our Top 10 Health Tips so you can relax, stay safe and enjoy this special time.

Choose a health care professional that you feel comfortable with. It’s important that you have someone to talk to if you are worried at any stage of your pregnancy.

Attend regular antenatal checkups. It’s important that you stay healthy and monitor the development of your baby.

Eat a healthy, well balanced diet. Remember that what you eat and drink can have an effect on your baby and eating healthily means you have a better chance of staying well throughout your pregnancy.

Avoid high-risk foods. It’s a good idea to stay away from soft cheeses, pre-cooked meat and unpasteurised dairy products. Don’t forget to wash all fruit and vegetables thoroughly.

Follow basic hygiene procedures. For example, washing your hands thoroughly after touching pets or preparing food.

Avoid situations that may pose a health risk. Handling your pet’s litter tray, preparing raw meat or fish or gardening without gloves can all be potentially harmful for pregnant women.

Be aware of potential hazards in the home and workplace. Some substances or equipment may be hazardous for you and your unborn child.

Exercise regularly. Gentle exercise and stretching throughout your pregnancy are great ways of preventing excess weight gain and reducing back ache.

Always check with your doctor or health care professional before taking any over-the-counter medicines or supplements.

Give up smoking and avoid being around smokers. Smoking, drinking and other forms of drugs are all potentially dangerous to your baby. Women who smoke while pregnant run greater risk of giving birth to an underweight baby.

10 Tips for a Winning Work from Home Job Search

Do you feel like you are losing the struggle to balance work and family? Have you decided that the one hour round trip commute in rush hour traffic, the choking exhaust fumes, and the testy drivers with their salutes are WAY overrated? If so, perhaps you’re considering joining the ranks of the ever increasing work from home elecommuters. Why has telecommuting become so popular? For one, it provides parents with much more flexibility than conventional employment. Parents can stay home and still work when a child is home sick, are able to be home waiting when children return from school, and can be available for many of the conferences, plays, games, and events that many parents are forced to miss because of demanding work schedules.

So how does one prepare for a work from home job search? The answer is - with great care and even more patience. “It takes much longer to secure a work from home position than a traditional job” says Pat W. a home-based working Mom of 3, who works as a Medical Transcriptionist. “It took me 14 months to find my current job, but it was well worth the wait. Now I am 100% sure of how they (the kids) are being taken care of, since I am now the one taking care of them. We’re all much happier.”

Pat is right. It takes the average person looking for a telecommuting position a good year before they find a position that suits their needs; and that’s typical in a good economy. But having a resume geared towards your work from home employment search is a sure fire way of positioning yourself ahead of the competition. Here are 10 tips to make your telecommuting job search more successful.

1. Make sure that you provide all of the documents that your job ad calls for. Provide your resume and cover letter and make sure that you abide by all submission instructions. Use snail mail, fax, e-mail, or phone calls only when asked to. If one of the above submission options are not listed, then it is safe to assume that your prospective employer will not look upon your ad-libbing kindly.

2. Have a resume all ready to be sent in .txt format. Many employers have databases set up to receive scanned resumes and .txt format is the format that makes it easiest for the employer. I know that it’s not as pretty as your regular formatted one, but having it ready to go when it is requested will make things much easier for you, and will help keep your resume out of the rejected pile.

3. If you have multiple interests in multiple fields, do not try to list them all on one resume. The result could make you look like the proverbial “jack of all trades and master of none.” Use multiple resumes that are tailored to the specific fields and detail the experience that you have.

4. Write a short descriptive objective. The objective is what compels your prospective employer to continue reading. If it does not match what he or she is looking for, or is so vague that they do not know what you are looking for, your resume will probably make it to the shredder. The rule of thumb is that an objective should be ten words or less.

5. Write a resume that highlights any equipment, software, or services that you currently have that make you “work from home ready”. If it comes down to you, and another person who still needs to set up a home office, then guess what, the job is probably yours.

6. If you are looking at local companies and are receptive to part-time telecommuting, list this on your resume too. Many companies that may be reluctant to exclusive telecommuting may jump at the chance to give it a try on a part-time basis.

7. If you are already a telecommuter and can show how your company benefited from the work from home experience, include it in your resume. It may help outline some advantages that your prospective employer has not yet considered.

8. Localize your job search. Many job searchers overlook their own towns and instead focus on the internet for work from home opportunities. While the internet offers an incredible number of job prospects, just think of how many people are seeing the same jobs you are. Compare that to the number of people that will see your local paper, or that will contact the businesses in your phone book. There’s no comparison. Local business owners may also be more open to local telecommuters because they can interview you in person, can have you come into the office on occasion, and can train you one-on-one. So don’t be afraid to approach a local business, it could be a smashing success.

9. Let word of mouth work for you. Tell everyone that you know that you are looking for a work from home position. It could result in a great job for you. If a friend works in an office and knows that there is an impossible deadline looming, he or she may be able to convince the boss to farm the surplus work out to you. “That’s what happened to me”, says Janet, a Graphic Designer. A friend called her on a Thursday and told her that they needed help meeting a deadline. Janet was working for the company by 9 AM the next day, despite the fact that the company was 200 miles away. She did such great work that she still works for them two years later as a telecommuter.

10. Approach current employers. While work from home positions are in hot demand, the truth is that most of them come about as a result of current employers trying to make room in their offices, reducing overhead, or accommodating an employee who needs a more flexible schedule or who needs to relocate. If you think that your present employer may be receptive to you working from home, why not start your search with someone already aware of what you can do.

Remember that the average work from home position brings in five to ten times as many applicants as the traditional job. Anything that you can do to highlight your knowledge, skills, or abilities, coupled with specific examples of how you can benefit the employer will help position yourself in the front of the pack. Don’t let the competition scare you off, the opportunity to reduce the amount of stress in your life, and improve the quality of your family life are well worth the possibility of a longer job search. Besides, look at what you’ll save on clothing. Pajamas and sweats are a lot cheaper that office attire - and a whole lot more comfortable.

6 Easy Time Tips

You are definitely not alone if you are feeling a need to simplify and organize your life. Many people easily spend 20 minutes a day looking for things. That is 122 hours a year - 5 entire days every year. You are bombarded with information from every direction, with 150,000 books and 10,000 periodicals published each year in the USA, before you even consider all the material coming at you from every direction online and various parts of your personal and professional life.

A survey of 600 adults commissioned by the Franklin Covey Co. shows:

42% of adults report they too often feel “life is a treadmill and I can’t get off.”
78% of adults say they wish they had more time to “stop and smell the roses.”
58% believe technological advances have given them more time. But they are using old habits with new technology. We need new habits.
81% of people consider themselves organized, YET -
83% say getting more organized is among their goals.

Consider the Law of the Slight Edge. When you use your time more effectively just one hour a day, 365 days a year (weekends, too), your yield would be an additional 45 - eight hour days. That’s 1 1/2 months! What would you do with that ‘extra’ time?

And that’s how much time the National Association of Professional Organizers says professionals spend looking for things. That’s 45 days of every year spent looking for stuff, time you could spend doing more of what you would really like to do!

Here are six painless and easy tips to manage your time more effectively, tips to help reassign those hours now spent searching:

1. Ask yourself ‘where would I look for this?’ rather than ‘where should I put this? when storing paper, possessions, or electronic files. The ‘putting’ part is easy. Finding things quickly and effortlessly is what saves you time.

2. Carry a folder of articles with you. This makes good use of small amounts of time otherwise spent waiting, while making a dent into your reading pile.

3. Create a mini-agenda for phone conversations. A planned call averages seven minutes. An unplanned call averages ten minutes. It is easy to see how you can maximize your phone time.

4. Set a time limit on your involvement in a task. The task will seem less boring or overwhelming if you know you will stop at a certain time.

5. Make notes to yourself for details that come up while sorting any pile. You can then address those notes one at a time later with the attention each deserves.

6. Use a spiral notebook to capture random ideas, to-do lists, and notes of phone conversations. The notebook creates reliability and consistency for storing information and is far superior to the back of an envelope.

Any ONE of these tips can redeposit considerable amounts of time back into the bank of Your Life, to spend in ways that are more pleasurable and satisfying for you. It’s your choice.

The Future of Your Child Son or Daughter,How to Invest the 250 Poundschild Trust Fund Voucher,Invest Your Totally Free Child Trust Fund Voucher with Scottish Friendly,Investing in a Child Trust Fund Really Adds up for Yourchild,a Free Voucher for Each New

Have you got to grips with the Child Trust Fund and the benefits that it can bestow upon your kids?A startling

small number of parents appear to be aware of the fact that all newly born babies receive a free £250 voucher from the government to put. Your son or daughter’s vouchercan be invested in any one of threekinds of CTF account, Stakeholder - a shares-based account that swapsinto cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is an excellent way to for the future life of a young person

Scottish Friendly is a designated provider of the Child Trust Fund Voucher. The State is eager for the general public to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the sort of account that we are offering. This means that:

• Investments are deposited into our Managed Growth Fund, which intends to provide good growth potential
• An investment is made in part in shares to take advantage of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares candecrease as well as go up whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)
• It comes with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of just 1.5% per year
• When attaining the age of 18 the child will get a lump sum, entirely free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under prevailing legislation
• It is very affordable - extra payments can be placed in the account from as little as £10

An attractive feature of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends - can give to the Fund to an uppermost limit of £1,200 per year to help augment the child’s Fund (once added, this money may not be withdrawn).

All this means our Stakeholder account offers a good balance between potentially high returns and a reduced level of risk. There is also the additional assurance that our account complies with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. Nonetheless this doesn’t mean that returns are guaranteed or that Stakeholder accounts are suitable for everyone. Remember that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is held) can fall as well as go up and isn’t guaranteed.

Only children who were born on or after 1st September 2002 are qualified to start up a Child Trust Fund. If you have children born before the {1st of September 2002 who are not entitled you could think about investing for them with a Child Bond - it’s a tax-free savings plan aiming for long-term growth. There can be no doubt that saving for a child is a sensible means of preparing for hard times that may lie ahead.

101 Gift Ideas for every occasion

People have forgotton about the meaning behind gifting, in a consumer driven society we are often pushed towards competing e.g. upstaing gifts and my gifts better than yours. Lets go back to basics, giving is far more rewarding then receiving its much better for your Karma. If someone gives you a list ignore it, the only time a list is applicable is for Weddings where this is a tradition. Gifting is all about imagination, and a little thinking time. For big events like Christmas buy people things they would never buy themselves.

Here are some top ideas of adults:

More and more adults are cooking as a hobby and for enjoyment therefore consider some of the following; spaghetti measurer, Griddle pan, pancake maker, panini press, Knife set, Chefs blow torch, Cook books

Relaxation is often overlooked in our busy lives how about some of the following;
Bath Salts, Beauty products, we recommed brands like Bathina, Dermologica, Foot Doctor & sanctuary. Best to go to a beauty store where there are gift packs. Electronic massager,
Cuddly hot water bottle, A good novel, lots to choose from here best to go for your books stores recommended list

Gadgets are great fun here are some ideas; USB computer lights, Screen cleaing kit

These are usually trend toys such as the latest lego product or film toys like Harry Potter, power rangers or Incredibles.

For creative kids, visit a craft centre either online or on the high street, how about buying some materials and let the kids get creative? You can buy thin leather and beads so they can make their own jewellery or perhaps card and other craft items to make their own art.

If you want to buy something different why not buy a classi corgi toy or perhaps some jewellery like a charm braclett which you can buy charms for at other gifting times. Computer games are normally a must have for kids but can be pricey, if these are out of your budget perhaps outdoor games would be a better choice.

Kids also love DVD’s so movies are a simple gift idea, some of our top tips are look out for these film distributors:

Seattle Airport: Fly and Park Cheaply

Seattle Airport parking facilities can be very expensive, starting at $26 a day or $130 for a whole week. But as it happens you don’t have to buy your tickets directly from the airport , and by using online booking agents you can save yourself quite a bit of money. By using their price comparison databases you can scan through a list of private car park companies until you find one that suits your needs. They’re rated according to price and customer service which makes it really easy to see which ones offer the best all round deals. With prices ranging from $8.99 to $15 a day it make a lot of sense to buy your tickets through one of these agencies. Bear in mind though, the cheaper tariffs may mean the customer service isn’t as good. You’d be wise to have a look at the reviews before committing yourself to anything.

Cheap airfare tickets are another way of saving yourself a lot of money if you do your research. But with so many airlines and travel companies competing for business it’s hard to know where to start. Fortunately, with the advent of the computer age, looking for a bargain is a lot easier than it used to be. You can go online at any time of the day or night, click on one of the price comparison sites, and within seconds have a list of flight tariffs to choose from. With flights from London to Seattle starting at around $486 and costing as much as $690 it really does make sense to do shop around. Do check carefully though - the low-cost flights may not always be available for the dates and times that you want to travel.
